You may experience soreness in the area after your procedure. Sometimes small stitches are placed to optimize healing. Depending on the location of your biopsy, the stitches may either be resorbable and dissolve in your mouth over the period of a week, or they may need to be removed by your doctor at your follow-up visit.
- Avoid stretching the oral tissues until healing is complete.
- Avoid hot foods and drinks immediately after the procedure.
- Brush your teeth thoroughly but gently with a toothbrush.
- Apply cold compresses to the area 20 minutes on/20 minutes off on the day of procedure.
- Gauze will be placed over the area where the biopsy was completed. We will provide you with sterile gauze to keep in place to help minimize bleeding.
- Keep your mouth as clean as possible. Rinse with a half teaspoon of salt dissolved in warm water.
- Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol as these greatly increase the risk of infection.
